Families with Autism Helping Families with Autism

Our 5th Annual Family & Friends Campaign:
Fundraising Ideas

Reaching Out to Your Circle

  • Set up your own personal website at www.firstgiving.com/tacanow

  • Write a brief note for your personal website or personal letters about your autism journey and why TACA is important to you.

  • Come up with a list of family and friends who you would like to approach to support TACA.

  • For those you have e-mail addresses, you can send them a note directly from FirstGiving directing them to your personal page which will have your note and and a picture of your child or family.

  • For people who do not have e-mail addresses, you can just type up the same note and mail your request to them.

  • For those people you see every day in person, a personal request is always best. Tell them what you are doing and pass on the TACA Family and Friends Solicitation Card and Keychain.

  • Remind them! People are busy – if you’ve asked and not received a response, it doesn’t hurt to ask again!

  • Send a thank-you note to all those who donate.

Reach Out to Your Community Restaurants

  • Many local restaurants offer fundraising days for charities. Check in with restaurants in your area and see if they would donate a portion of the proceeds on a given night for a Family & Friends fundraisers.

  • Ask to place TACA's table-top cards on restaurants tables. Download PDF to print:
    • Each letter-size sheet makes 2 Table Tents
    • Print on Cardstock
    • Trim at the Solid-CropLines
    • Fold at the Dash-CropLines
    • Photo to the right shows how it should roughly look.
  • Once they say yes – get the word out! Call your friends, families, post an e-mail to list-servs you belong to and print out a flyer at your kid’s school.

  • Enjoy dinner with your family and friends and raise funds for TACA at the same time

Just Reach Out!

There are so many creative ways to fundraiser. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Have a GFCF bake sale at your child’s school

  • Invite some people over for snacks and show them the Hope After Diagnosis video

  • During April, Autism Awareness Month, change your telephone answering machine to let people know you are raising funds for TACA and to visit your FirstGiving page.

  • Write a note to all your neighbors and stick it in their mailboxes telling them your story and asking them to help support your campaign.

  • Ask your church to put an announcement in the bulletin about your efforts.

  • Use Facebook and Myspace to spread the word via your status updates and posting links to your personal FirstGiving page.

Pass It On

One of the best ways you can expand your reach is to be a Family & Friends Campaign Recruiter. What does that mean? Reach out to your friends and ask them to become a fundraiser for the campaign by starting their own personal fundraising FirstGiving page and reaching out to their extended family and friends.
