1 | TACA Family & Friends Campaign |
Please help TACA assist your family, as well as the many families entering the autism journey, through your participation in the 2007 TACA Family and Friends Campaign. Since TACA was started, so many people have asked, "How can I help?" We have always responded by telling them to take care of their family and beloved children. The last two years we have asked them to go a little bit further - to reach out to their extended community and raise autism awareness and funds to help TACA continue to fulfill its mission of improving the quality of life for families living with autism. You all came through amazingly, and over the last two years, the TACA Family and Friends campaign has raised more than $65,000!! This has allowed TACA to hold six New Parent seminars, two Parent Education seminars, and distribute over 750 autism Journey Guides!! What a difference your help has made for new families struggling with the autism diagnosis. We hope you can come through for us again this year -- to help us meet our goal of providing TACA programs and services free to all families. Through your fundraising, you can help TACA assist not only your family, but the many families entering the autism journey. TACA adds about 50 new families each month. They need our help and strength so they can get off to the right start. Thank you for sharing your time and your passion! Contact us to participate in the TACA Family and Friends campaign by requesting your free fundraising and awareness kit or create your own personalized fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/tacanow. Win incentives based on your fundraising!

7 | TACA Frequently Valued Information – NEW |
A new feature for the TACA eNews for families – Frequently Valued Information (FVI.) The goal of FVI is to provide updates and “need to knows” quickly to make your life easier! This month’s FVI edition: The TACA web site now hosts hundreds of pages – with much of the information updated frequently. It is hard to juggle the web site and know what’s new and what’s not! To make this process easier, our TACA web master, Lynne Arnold, keeps the "What's New" page updated. This page provides a snapshot view of all the web site content that has been newly added or updated in the last 2 months! Never be out of the “know” with this feature! |

12 | TACA Volunteer Opportunities |
TACA has grown so much over the past six years and our amazing volunteers help make TACA do what it does for families. Currently over 100 volunteers allow TACA to run and serve the almost 2300 families. Volunteer hours are crucial to our operations and so needed and appreciated. It is our goal to make volunteer positions available to those in our community (family, friends, vendors, and sometimes our parents) as times permits in our busy schedules! Please consider these options: TACA San Diego Volunteer Opportunity Coordinate with Becky Estepp on selling TACA products before and after meetings. Must show up 15 minutes before the meeting starts to set up the TACA products. Must stay 15- 30 minutes after the meeting is over to sell the products. For more information or to volunteer, contact Becky Estepp. Thank you for considering a volunteer position at TACA. |

14 | Personal Note |
The Kid update: Both Lauren and Jeff just celebrated their birthdays. Lauren is now 24 (gulp!) and Jeff an entry into double digits at 10! Happy birthday beautiful, fantastic, talented, amazing Ack kids! It has been just over six months since Jeff started the Dr. Krigsman / gastro-treatment protocol. What’s new you ask? Well, the main improvements are sleeping through 90% of the nights since starting and (WARNING!) here comes the poop talk: Jeff is stooling every day, more quantity, better color and almost normal consistency – constipation seems to be a lot less frequent. Focus and some cognitive skills “appear to be” improving. The best news: no waking up in the middle of the night crying in pain! His annual professional team testing is occurring as I type this eNews. More on those results in a future upcoming personal note. The interesting part of the story is that his abdominal girth (measured in the same place using the same measuring tape) varies by over 2” on some days. The days where he appears to be “off target” are the days when his tummy expands. The better days where he appears to be “on” is when the tummy is at a typical size. Missed this story? To catch up and read more about gastrointestinal issues please see: For detailed information please see The Poop Page This story is far from being over. Jeff continues to improve from just about every area of development and in overall health. The treatment we are following is not a cure for his issues but a way to manage them and help Jeff be more comfortable. More research and efforts will be done in this area and I will be looking towards updates and sharing them with you. Some exciting news on events fundraising for TACA include: The Huntington Beach Mothers’ Club cordially invites you to the 2007 Mothers Day Luncheon on April 29, 2007 From 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach – 21500 Pacific Coast Highway with all proceeds benefiting TACA – Talk about Curing Autism! For more information – contact HBMC Jeanne at Jr2woltman@aol.com. Special thanks to Natalie Hamilton for making this event happen. And the Sensaria Natural Bodycare party for TACA with Tracey Hengehold and my sister Jamie Davis on April 22nd. This pampering party will be at Tracey’s house in Anaheim. For more information, see the vendor announcement above or email Jamie at pampered@adelphia.net. Save the date for Sunday, May 20th. Beth is finalizing TACA’s involvement with Penngrove Motorcycle Company’s biannual fundraising event. Come to the Santa Rosa group meeting to hear how you can help raise money for TACA and our autism community! If you have any suggestions on how we can best use the money or can volunteer for the booth, please call/email Beth ASAP at (707) 321-8343 or exitproperties@comast.net. Special thanks to Beth & Cathy for making this event happen in Santa Rosa!! Autism Awareness? Please remember – don’t let autism awareness pass you by without spreading the word. I know you and your family are EXTREMELY aware of autism – but what about your co-workers, neighbors and relatives? The reason why? Autism – for the most part – is a silent epidemic. Our kids do not typically die an early death, all of our children are beautiful and show no obvious signs of disability, many do not talk or are not able to leave the house. As parents, family and friends, our annual effort to spread the word about autism is an important effort. I will be on the road in Southern California talking to PTAs, service clubs, legislators, and members of our community to spread the word. I hope you will join me. It’s never too late to get started. Consider the TACA 3rd Annual Friends & Family campaign or other autism awareness ideas! Or catch this wonderful video from John Ondrasnik from Five for Fighting. Or catch Autism Awareness topics on UCTV (University of California TV), including the recent Autism & Vaccines debate. Finally – it's month four without mom and Bernie. I miss them. But I still feel their presence and continue to use their energy to drive forward. Your friend on the journey, Lisa A, Jeff & Lauren’s mom, Glen’s wife And Editor: Kim Palmer (thanks Kim!) |
