Hours Per Week: 10-12 hrs.

Benefits: 3 days or 12 hours of paid sick time upon hire and upon 2nd year of service, paid holidays

Position Overview

The Autism Community in Action (TACA) provides education, support, and hope to families affected by autism. Support programs at TACA provide parents with the insights and skills to create plans and action steps for their families.

The Program Assistant – Virtual Support candidate will have the responsibility for virtual support programming at a national and regional scale through support programs. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Assistant – Virtual Support will work on the Support Team at TACA, collaborating with Program teams. The major role of this position is to organize, recruit volunteers for, and monitor the virtual support meetings.

Key Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of Autism required, including an understanding of current autism research, and awareness of challenges faced by families on an autism journey.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required, with the demonstrated ability to produce timely and impactful content.
  • Experience in recruiting, developing and motivating volunteers.
  • High level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media Platforms and tools for virtual meetings (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex Events, and other virtual meeting software)
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Execute virtual support meetings:
    • Follow TACA procedures and processes for virtual support meetings/family meetings.
    • Collaborate with the education coordinator, volunteer & mentor support coordinators and program design coordinator to plan cohesive support meetings with appropriate moderation.
    • Develop training and transition planning to shift virtual support from staff-led to volunteer-led programming.
    • Provide appropriate mentoring to volunteers to develop capacity and onboarding to lead virtual support programs.
    • Maintain backend support to ensure virtual support offerings meet TACA mission and professional standards of excellence.
    • Complete and communicate plans across program and marketing teams and with volunteers.
    • Coordinate details for national and regional support meetings in collaboration with the Design Team.
    • Lead national support meetings with a general reach, including East/West support meetings, family panel meetings, virtual support hours back-up as needed, and other special meetings, including but not limited to virtual presentations and educational meetings. Not including any special projects by Volunteer Coordinators with volunteer leaders such as Mental Health Moments, Hope & Art series, and Mentors Supporting Mentors.
    • Manage data on the reach and results of all virtual support meetings.
  • Collaborate with the educational team to record newly diagnosed initiatives, including developing scripting for recorded presentations. The Ed team will be responsible for developing the educational content of the presentation.
  • Engage in and contribute to annual planning and strategic planning for support programs.
  • Attend staff meetings pertaining to job duties including, All Staff, Programs, Learning and Ed, and Volunteer as needed.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and competency to answer questions with accurate, clear details and facts.
  • Able to plan strategic goals for support, and measure success of initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, independent worker who is deadline driven with the ability to multitask.
