Blackberry-Habanero BBQ Sauce - GFCFSF

2-1/2 cups fresh or frozen (and thawed) blackberries
2 shallots, chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup minced fresh ginger
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/2-2 teaspoons minced habanero, without seeds, depending on how hot you want it*
salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Using a fine mesh sieve, strain mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat – stirring regularly – until thickened, about 1 hour. Season with salt and pepper to taste while cooking.

*1/2 teaspoon is spicy but kids could tolerate it. If you like it super spicy, add up to 2 teaspoons chopped pepper.
