Thanks to fundraising efforts, we are happy to announce TACA families have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to participate with the renowned Spellers Method™.
Thanks to fundraising efforts families in four areas of the US can apply for a scholarship to participate with the Spellers Method™ to evaluate and investigate the need of alternative therapy for communication of non-speaking or minimal speaking individuals on the autism spectrum. This scholarship is currently restricted to 5 ASD children or adults in the areas of Oceanside, CA, Portland, OR, Phoenix and Mesa AZ, and Trinity, FL.
Purpose
The TACA Family Scholarship Fund was developed to help families who are pursuing treatment for their children with autism but are struggling to find the funding. We understand how difficult it is to stretch the family budget. It is our desire to provide limited financial assistance to eligible families.
Our 2023 TACA Spellers Scholarship will provide financial assistance to eligible families. The scholarship awards $2,000 to aid in the out-of-pocket expenses for the communication therapy professional that specializes in the multidisciplinary approach to help nonspeakers and support a variety of sensory-motor profiles . This includes: 7 in person sessions, CRP (Communication Regulation Partner) course and beginning letterboards. - This is a parent driven scholarship with professional training, online classes, and follow up in person support. Scholarship includes: Five sessions in person to start, Communication and Regulation Partner (CRP) online course including homework and practice at home to be completed over 8 weeks, then come back for two additional sessions in person post CRP coursework.
- Children or adults diagnosed with autism ages 10 & up can qualify for the scholarship. Must have a dedicated communication partner.
- MUST SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING FOUR LOCATIONS: Trinity/Tampa, FL., Oceanside/San Diego, CA., Phoenix/Mesa AZ, and Portland, OR
- Scholarship does not include travel or accommodation expenses.
- Scholarship must be completed with a 12 month period.
- Scholarship does not include additional services of any kind beyond scope of initial.
Deadline
Funding will be given out until all funds are expended or until June 30, 2023, whichever comes first. Applications will be reviewed, and applicants will be notified of the outcome by July 21, 2023.
Eligibility
Families must meet the following criteria to be eligible to receive assistance from the TACA Family Scholarship Fund:
•Be a TACA member (sign up on the web, it’s FREE!)
•Have a child diagnosed with ASD or PDD-NOS
•Have a combined annual household income equal to or less than 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (Applicants with higher household incomes will be considered, but priority will be given to those equal to or less than 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.)
•Have a child or adult 10 years and older on the Autism Spectrum.
- ASD individual must have one dedicated communication partner for all sessions.
- Attend at least one TACA in person OR Virtual event (this includes Virtual Support, Family Panels, or the TACA Take Action Conference Series) OR the in person TACA National Autism Conference
- ONE check will be sent to the practitioners to use for therapy. Any membership or concierge fee, travel or accommodation costs are NOT covered by the scholarship.
- The scholarship can NOT go towards an appointment or service that happened prior to the scholarship award. Scholarship funds are only for appointments that occur AFTER the scholarship is awarded and the scholarship agreement is completed.
- You can NOT switch practitioners or split the funds between two locations.

If the scholarship is awarded:

- The scholarship can NOT go towards an appointment or service that happened prior to the scholarship award. Scholarship funds are only for appointments that occur AFTER the scholarship is awarded and the scholarship agreement is completed.
- You can NOT switch practitioners or split the funds between two locations.
