Speaker: Lori Coda, M.S. SpEd, Neurofeedback & QEEG Specialist

Lori has an M.S. in SpEd and has been a behavioral and educational consultant for more than 20 years, working with children with a broad range of learning and behavior disabilities with a specialty in Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has expanded her private practice in 2005 adding QeeG Brain Mapping and Neurofeedback. Her Neurofeedback specialty lies in ASD, ADD/ADHD, Learning Disabilities and Anxiety. The lecture will be split into two topics: Social Skill Games and Feeding Issue Games and QEEG and Neurofeedback Therapy. For the first part of the lecture, Lori Coda will discuss the series of Social Skill Games she has developed and implemented with great success. She will bring these games with her to demonstrate how these games facilitate the learning of essential social skills needed throughout life by putting them in a concrete manner that is also fun. These skills address the needs of children from Pre-K and up. She will also show some games to address Feeding Issues; these games tend to address younger kids.

The second part of the lecture will be an introduction to the twofold protocol of QEEG and Neurofeedback. Quantitative EEG Brain Mapping (QEEG) is a one-hour assessment tool used to determine the electrical activity of the brain: what areas are inactive, active, in sync or out of sync. The QEEG assessment drives the Neurofeedback protocol so the treatment is tailored for the patient’s brainwave pattern. Neurofeedback is a brain exercise that retrains the brain wave patterns so the areas of the brain that have slowed processing are sped up while areas that are going too fast are slowed down. Long lasting results can improve areas of thinking and behavior: social skills, attention issues, anxiety, and receptive and expressive language. After a series of Neurofeedback treatments, the QEEG can be repeated to see the change in the brainwave pattern. Neurofeedback has benefits for children and adults with a variety of conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficits, Anxiety, Depression, Learning Disabilities and more. She will bring her Neurofeedback equipment to demonstrate.
