Talk About Curing Autism of Hawaii E-Newsletter

JUNE 2013

On April 30, 2013, before the Hawaii State Senate, Senator Kalani English honored TACA Hawaii Coordinator, Kiele Pennington, for her volunteer service to Hawaii’s autism community. Kiele is the Coordinator for the TACA Hawaii Chapter. In this capacity she is responsible for managing monthly Coffee Talks, Quarterly “Learning Seminars” and chapter fundraising. Additionally, Kiele is involved in TACA’s Free Social Skill Program as well as the Hawaii Family Scholarship, which is funded by the Hawaii Autism Foundation. Finally, Kiele works directly with families and manages TACA’s email list to 800 families island wide.

Congratulations, Kiele! We are so proud to see your outstanding volunteer efforts recognized!

Many MAHALOS to Bikram Yoga Honolulu for holding their donation class in honor of TACA Hawaii during April Autism Action Month! BYH definitely took action and raised $500 in one class to benefit Hawaii families living with autism. We are so thankful for Alexis and the gang at Bikram Yoga Honolulu for their continued support of our ohanas.

For more information about everything Bikram Yoga Honolulu has to offer, please visit www.bikramyogahonolulu.com or visit them at one of their two convenient locations!

The Teen and Young Adult Coffee Talk will be hosted by Vera Asato. Both Coffee Talks will be at the same time, same location but will be held in separate rooms.

How TACA Helps Hawaii Families

TACA does not charge admission to the meetings, nor does it assess annual membership fees for families it supports. Meetings feature:

  • Free TACA Autism Journey Guides (over 750 pages of collective knowledge gathered from experienced paraprofessionals and parents) are offered to all parents who are attending their first Chapter meeting.
  • Speakers on topics ranging from traditional therapies, integrated medical treatments, education, and legal support.
  • TACA's Parent Mentors - one-on-one access to experienced families who have successfully navigated the challenges of finding appropriate treatments and educational opportunities for their children, and who receive additional education from TACA's Foundation Office.
