Speakers: Carolyn Fiume, The Arc of the Central Chesapeake

An effective educational program starts with starts with the IEP. But how do you wade through the jargon to figure out whether your child's IEP measures up? Carolyn Fiume, Director of Educational Advocacy for the Arc of the Central Chesapeake and parent of a son with ASD, will present the top 10 components of a good IEP. Bring your child's most recent IEP to see how it stacks up. Carolyn will lead a roundtable discussion following her presentation, and will provide feedback as time permits.

Please note: Following the presentation, we will dedicate 45 minutes to roundtable discussions. Our roundtables are aimed at building community and providing ideas and assistance to attendees.

2012 Family & Friends Campaign

Friends & Family Icon

The Family & Friends Campaign was created 7 years ago to build awareness and support for families affected by autism. Each year hundreds of volunteers reach out to their community through the Family & Friends Campaign to raise funds & awareness for the great work TACA is doing to provide education, empowerment and support to families across the U.S. We're aiming to raise $105,000 by the end of June, and we need your support! Click here to learn more about the campaign! and how to get started!

How TACA Helps Maryland & Washington, D.C. Families

TACA does not charge admission to the meetings, nor does it assess annual membership fees for families it supports. Meetings feature:

  • Free TACA Autism Journey Guides (over 750 pages of collective knowledge gathered from experienced paraprofessionals and parents) are offered to all parents who are attending their first Chapter meeting.
  • Speakers on topics ranging from traditional therapies, integrated medical treatments, education, and legal support.
  • TACA's Parent Mentors - one-on-one access to experienced families who have successfully navigated the challenges of finding appropriate treatments and educational opportunities for their children, and who receive additional education from TACA's Foundation Office.
