MASSACHUSETTS CHAPTER MEETING

One Mother’s Fight

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Speaker: Beth Maloney, attorney, advocate and author

Maloney is a national attorney advocate for the recognition and treatment of PANDAS/PANS, which is a sudden acute and debilitating onset of intense anxiety and mood swings accompanied by Obsessive Compulsive-like issues and/or Tics associated with a streptococcal-A (GABHS) and other infections. Maloney’s book, “Saving Sammy” is about her two-year struggle to obtain the correct diagnosis and treatment for her then 12 year-old son. Her second book, “Childhood Interrupted: The Complete Guide to PANDAS and PANS” was published in November 2013.

Her most recent focus has been to bring both medical and public attention to recognizing and treating this disorder, including drawing attention to the plights of children in custody at Boston Children’s Hospital due to medical disagreements between different physicians. Maloney’s media appearances include The Today Show, The Doctors, Mystery Diagnosis, the Glenn Beck show, Fox News LA, Good Morning LA, 207, AM Northwest, Fox Q13 Seattle, GMA Health, Sirius XM’s Doctor Radio, various Public Radio stations, internet and podcast programs, multiple articles in print and online, most recently The Boston Globe. If you have one of Beth’s books, be sure to bring it for her to sign.

The meeting is free, but an RSVP is requested: Mary.Romaniec@tacanow.org

UPCOMING MASSACHUSETTS CHAPTER MEETING

Autism Breakthrough

Saturday, May 17, 2014

Speaker: Raun Kaufman of The Son-Rise Program

Kaufman’s new book, “Autism Breakthrough” is receiving wide acclaim and will be available for purchase at the event.

As a boy, Kaufman was diagnosed by multiple experts as severely autistic, with an IQ below 30, and destined to spend his life in an institution. Years later, he graduated from Brown University with a degree in Biomedical Ethics and has become a passionate and articulate international lecturer, author, and teacher to families with children on the autism spectrum. So what happened?

Thanks to The Son-RiseProgram, a revolutionary method his parents created, Kaufman recovered fully from his autism with no trace of his former condition. He has written articles featured in a host of journals and books and has been interviewed by media such as National Public Radio, BBC Television, Fox News Channel, and People magazine.

In Autism Breakthrough, Kaufman presents the innovative techniques behind the program that helped him and thousands of other children and adults. A step-by-step guide written with humor, inspiring stories, and clear, practical strategies that readers can apply immediately, this book gives parents who have felt desperate and dismissed the tools to reach their own children. Parents and educators learn how to enable their children to create meaningful, caring relationships, vastly expand their communications, and participate successfully in the world.

Autism Breakthrough breaks all the rules and shows how joining children in their own unique worlds before asking them to join us in ours makes it possible for these special children to defy their original often-very-limited prognoses.

The meeting is free, however an RSVP is requested. Please RSVP to Mary.Romaniec@tacanow.org
