Learn how parents can help facilitate play and specific games to help facilitate social interaction. Basically what do we need to do to have a better rate of success with our kiddos!!!

Speaker: Christina McReynolds, Ed. S, MS, BCBA

Christina works as a clinical Supervisor at Creative Solutions for Hope and as an Autism Coordinator at the North Orange County SELPA. She is a Nationally Certified Behavior Analyst, (BCBA), has a Master’s of Science in Education and credentials in Educational Leadership, Special Education, and Early Childhood Special Education. She is also certified in Behavior Intervention Case Management, Crisis Intervention, and Behavioral Intervention for Individuals with ASD. She has worked with individuals with disabilities for over fifteen years, serving as a therapist, a teacher, coordinator and University Instructor. Christina is especially interested in social skills and the relationship between play and the development of executive functioning. Christina co-authored “The Social Compass Curriculum: A story based intervention package for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders” as a response to the tremendous need for Social Cognition support that was apparent throughout her career.

Pacific Symphony Heartstrings

TACA and Pacific Symphony Heartstrings Program have partnered together to bring music to our community by presenting this FREE event for TACA families. 

Nancy Coade Eldridge is an active violinist and teacher in Orange County, Calif. She became a member of the first violin section of Pacific Symphony in 1996, and since 1998 has been a member of the Symphony’s elementary music outreach program called Class Act. In the last couple of years, performing chamber music has become a passion of hers. She has formed the Hillsboro Piano Trio with Doris Chiang and Wendy Velasco in the Southern California area and the Coade Duo with her sister Caroline. Eldridge has recorded for the motion picture industry in Los Angeles as well as performed many seasons with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera and Opera Pacific. Summers have been spent at various summer music festivals including the Oregon Coast Music Festival in Coos Bay, Ore., the Cascade Festival in Bend, Ore. and the Utah Festival Opera Company in Logan, Utah.  For Nancy's full bio, click here.

Carolyn Riley grew up in a small town in Virginia. After attending the Juilliard School and graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music, Riley accepted a viola position with Pacific Symphony. Riley has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, Russia, and Israel. Her chamber music performances have been heard in major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center. As former principal violist of the National Repertory Orchestra, she soloed with the orchestra numerous times. Riley also regularly plays with the Los Angeles Opera, the San Diego Symphony, the Pageant of the Masters, and records for the Motion Picture Industry.

Beginning in June 2013, Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), in collaboration with the Special Education Law Firm (SELF), will be hosting monthly FREE legal advice clinics for TACA families. Services for this clinic will be provided by SELF attorneys and advocates and members of TACA’s ProBono attorney panel.

What to bring:
• Your child’s most current, consented to (signed by you) Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Any IEP with an offer of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that you have not signed but are seeking consultation for.
• Any other documents relevant to issues you are seeking consultation for.
• Please do not bring documents that are more than two years old.

Other Details:
• Each family will receive a one-hour consultation with an attorney or highly experienced advocate.
• Legal consultations are free, but participants MUST RSVP to secure an available time slot.
• Legal consultations are for special education issues only. Attorneys/advocates will not consult on Regional Center, SSI, IHSS, Medi-cal or other disability related issues.
• You may bring children with you, however child care is not available and you will be responsible for monitoring your children. TACA is not responsible for unattended children.
• All consultations are private and confidential and will be conducted in a private space.
• Reservations are first-come, first-served. If we are unable to schedule your consultation, you will be placed on a wait list and may receive a consult if there is a no-show. You may also choose to reserve for the following month.

How TACA Helps Orange County Families

TACA does not charge admission to the meetings, nor does it assess annual membership fees for families it supports. Meetings feature:

  • Free TACA Autism Journey Guides (over 750 pages of collective knowledge gathered from experienced paraprofessionals and parents) are offered to all parents who are attending their first Chapter meeting.
  • Speakers on topics ranging from traditional therapies, integrated medical treatments, education, and legal support.
  • TACA's Parent Mentors - one-on-one access to experienced families who have successfully navigated the challenges of finding appropriate treatments and educational opportunities for their children, and who receive additional education from TACA's Foundation Office.
