Who's Runnin' This Train?! Understanding Executive Function Challenges in Children with Special Needs

Saturday, November 19, 2011 - (pleasa note the corrected date!)

Speaker: Elizabeth Gregory, Family Coach, Piece-ful Mind Consulting

Executive Functions are to the brain what a conductor is to a train.A strong train conductor ensures that all of the train’s functions are working properly and that the train gets to its destination safely and efficiently. If the conductor was unable to perform his duties reliably and consistently, the functioning of the train would change dramatically. Likewise, if your child is unable to perform these executive functions reliably and consistently, his or her functioning is impacted. Examples of these very important skills include organization, flexibility, transitioning, and impulse control.
