MARCH 2011

CHAPTER ANNOUNCEMENT

Greetings, Members!

The Washington Chapter of Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) is excited to announce the expansion of its Western Washington support offerings with meetings set to convene in a new location in Seattle and continued South Sound Coffee Talks through 2011.

Please help us welcome TACA Washington’s new Seattle Coordinators Janelle Hall and Sarah Richards. Hall and Richards were selected by the TACA National office after completing the Chapter Application and interview process in 2010. They attended the organization’s national Leadership Conference in California last January for training and orientation, and are planning to launch this April with monthly meetings held at 2 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at Birth and Beyond, 2719 East Madison Street, Seattle - click here for directions.

Coordinators Denise Fulton, Chelsi Coate and Don & Merrily Burbank along with Key Volunteer Dean Fulton have done a great job serving the South Sound community the past three years but have faced a shift in availability due to changing family demands and have determined it's time to pass the meeting baton to the Seattle team. Through 2011, they will continue offering monthly Coffee Talks at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at Forza Coffee House at 1520 Wilmington Drive in Dupont - click here for directions; South Sound families are encouraged to attend the meetings in Seattle but in case they can’t, they’ll still have these monthly opportunities for support.

UPCOMING CHAPTER MEETING

Introduction to TACA: A Presentation

Saturday, April 9, 2011

Presented by: Janelle Hall and Sarah Richards

An Introduction to TACA: we provide support, understanding and encouragement for Washington families living with autism. We also strengthen the autism community by connecting parents with area professionals who can help them. Join us as we expand TACA in Washington State with our inaugural Seattle meeting and meet local parents using effective, emerging treatment options to help their kids. You may know us (Janelle and Sarah) as the MOCHA Coordinators here in Seattle. Now, as part of TACA, we hope to reach a wider audience and help more families. Come to our TACA Meeting on April 9th!

Coffee Talk

Coffee TalkMeets the 3rd Saturday of each month

Next Date: April 16, 2011

Come and receive some extra support or to chat all topics related to autism and meet other TACA families.

How TACA Helps Washington Families

TACA does not charge admission to the meetings, nor does it assess annual membership fees for families it supports. Meetings feature:

  • Free TACA Autism Journey Guides (over 300 pages of collective knowledge gathered from experienced paraprofessionals and parents) are offered to all parents of who are attending their first Chapter meeting.
  • Speakers on topics ranging from traditional therapies, integrated medical treatments, education, and legal support.
  • TACA's Parent Mentors - one-on-one access to experienced families who have successfully navigated the challenges of finding appropriate treatments and educational opportunities for their children, who receive additional education from TACA's Foundation Office.
