CranioSacral Therapy is a light touch therapy effective in supporting the central nervous system so that a child’s body can self-correct and heal naturally. It can help a child overcome congenital and acquired health challenges and prevent new ones from occurring. It has been found to be quite beneficial for children with A.D.D. and A.D.H.D., autism spectrum disorders, and Sensory Processing Disorders. This gentle, non-invasive therapeutic technique helps release restrictions throughout the body and central nervous system thereby having an impact on sensory, motor and neurological challenges.
Speaker Bio: Laura Bogenrief is a pediatric physical therapist who has been in private practice for 27 years. She has specialized in CranioSacral Therapy (CST) since 1993. In 2007, Laura was invited by Dr. John Upledger (pioneer in CST) to join his staff at the Upledger Clinic Health Complex, where she worked for 3 years. Laura worked with all ages, but focused on pediatrics and helped develop a pediatric intensive program. She continues to offer the intensive programs throughout the US and abroad. Laura also specializes in Sensory Integration and has found the combination of these two areas (CST and SI) to be especially effective. A strong focus for Laura has also been working with children on the Autism Spectrum, which represents a large portion of her practice. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in physical therapy, Laura worked with the UW Hospitals and Clinics for 7 years before going into private practice. Since 2001 she and her husband Dave, also a physical therapist, have been partners in Physical Therapy Integration, LLC (PTI). The scope of the private practice included a freestanding pediatric PT clinic integrating SI and CST concepts and contracting with 4 public school districts, a birth to three program, a birthing clinic, and private patients. Other highlights of Laura’s career include her instrumental role in establishing the first Upledger Compassionate Touch Program for children in the public elementary school setting. She also served as the chair of an innovative program funded by a state of Wisconsin grant that taught Sensory Integrative concepts to third grade elementary school children, based on the Alert Program.
