Description
In this presentation with Sara Weirich, MS, OTR/L, attendees will explore how occupational therapy (OT) can support children in overcoming developmental challenges and improving their participation in everyday activities. This session highlights the importance of family-centered care, where the needs and priorities of both the child and their family drive the therapy process. Sara will discuss how OT can address concerns such as sensory regulation, fine and gross motor skills, self-care, and social skills. The evaluation process, treatment programs, and strategies for integrating OT into daily life will be covered, including actionable at-home techniques. Key OT programs, such as the Integrated Listening System (ILS), the astronaut program, and the interactive metronome, will be introduced, empowering parents to implement strategies that support their child’s growth. The session will also emphasize the vital role caregivers play in reinforcing therapy goals and ensuring their child’s continued success.
