Executive Function and the IEP: Beyond “Just Try Harder”
Executive functioning skills impact a student’s ability to plan, organize, manage time, start and complete tasks, stay focused, and work independently. When these skills are challenging, students may struggle with missing assignments, transitions, homework, organization, or keeping up academically, even when they understand the material.
Join us for this Legal Clinic to learn how executive-function needs can be addressed through the IEP. We’ll discuss evaluations, measurable goals, accommodations, specialized instruction, and practical supports that can help students build skills and succeed at school.
Parents and caregivers will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn how to better advocate for appropriate executive-function supports in their child’s IEP.
