The Autism Community in Action (TACA) recognized and honored American actor Johnathon Schaech with the organization’s inaugural Autism Hero Award. The award was presented at TACA’s 15th annual Ante Up for Autism gala held at the Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Before an audience of more than 300 people and live streamed across the country, TACA Founder and Executive Director, Lisa Ackerman shared Schaech has been involved in the autism community since 2009.
“He’s given his time, talent, love, respect and most of all compassion and understanding. Johnathon gives from his heart,” said Ackerman.
“Throughout the years experiencing the evolution of TACA has been the most rewarding thing that I could be a part of. I work to be the voice of awareness and want to help families struggling through the challenges of autism. I can tell you TACA mothers and fathers are warriors. They fight for their children. I’m honored to be recognized by these exceptional warriors,” said Schaech
Ante Up for Autism began 15 years ago as a fundraiser for TACA. In 2020 when COVID- 19 prohibited an in-person event, TACA moved forward and transitioned Ante Up for Autism into a virtual event. Schaech served as the master of ceremonies and with his support the program was successfully live broadcasted to viewing parties across the country. Schaech has played a role in growing what was once a Southern California tradition into a national “party for a purpose” generating more than $7 million since its inception. These crucial funds support TACA programs which provide real and immediate hope to families living with autism.
