The Autism Community in Action (TACA), recognized and honored the Warne Foundation with the organization’s Autism Hero Award. Victoria Erautt and Julie Roberts representing their family’s foundation, accepted the award at TACA’s 17th annual Ante Up for Autism gala held at the Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, California.
For more than 12 years the Warne Foundation has been a leading funder of numerous TACA campaigns focused on supporting families in the beginning stages of their children’s autism diagnosis. In addition to financial support, they actively participate in TACA family events and are outstanding autism ambassadors in the community.
Autism is personal to the Roberts family. Their son was diagnosed when he was two years old. Today he is a sophomore in high school and is mainstreamed with minimal help. The family credits his success to the support they received from TACA.
Roberts shared, “Although our journey was difficult, I know there are a lot of other families who have had a much harder journey. As a mom, this breaks my heart. There are so many kids and families that need our help.”
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported 1 in 36 children in the United States has been diagnosed with autism. This is a prevalence increase of 317% since the year 2000.
“Everybody knows somebody who is on this journey. We need to be there to help them and support them,” says Erautt.
Ante Up for Autism began 17 years ago as a fundraiser for TACA. As Title and Presenting sponsors, The Warne Foundation has played a significant role in growing this annual event to generate nearly $9 million since its inception. These crucial funds support TACA programs which provide real and immediate hope to families living with autism.
