Ivelisse shares their journey from Lexa’s diagnosis during the COVID-19 pandemic to connecting with other autism families to the hope she feels now.
“As a family we are not looking for awareness, we want acceptance and inclusion. My daughter’s diagnosis doesn’t define her, or the things that she can achieve in life, with the right support and tools she can participate in anything she may want to be part of. I also want people to know that an autistic meltdown is not intentional it is an involuntary neurological response to sensory overload. Knowing one autistic person means knowing one autistic person-not knowing autism.”
