Biography

Katie Anawalt is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) and assistive technology specialist (ATS) who has been working with individuals with complex communication needs for the past 20 years, advocating for access to and achievement of autonomous and independent multimodal communication. Ms. Anawalt specializes in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to maximize an individual’s learning and communication potential while working in schools, homes, and clinical settings, nationally and internationally, collaborating with families and their support staff. She is Level 4 certified in Rapid Prompting Method (RPM), having studied under its creator, Soma Mukhopadyay, since 2004. In 2018, Ms. Anawalt founded The Anawalt Practice (TAP) in Los Angeles. She is trained in PROMPTS for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) and has continuing education training in Dynamic Tactile and Temporal Cueing (DTTC), TalkTools, natural language acquisition (NLA), and comprehensive literacy-based instruction and AAC.
