Katie Anawalt, MS, CCC-SLP

Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from Oberlin College and Master of Science (M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology graduating with distinction from California State University, Northridge. As a speech-language pathologist in Los Angeles, Katie is responsible for assessing and treating speech and language disorders in children and adults and is highly familiar with the aspects of managing screening, evaluation, consultation with families, and treatment activities in the school, home, and clinical settings. Katie has extensive training and clinical experience in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Since 2004, Katie has dedicated herself to learning and using Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) and other support strategies that incorporate AAC to maximize an individual’s communication skills. Created by Soma Mukhopadhyay, RPM is an academic method leading towards communication for person with autism and related disorders. Katie is one of a limited number of professionals highly certified in RPM. In addition, Katie has completed continuing education in the PROMPT Institute’s Introduction to PROMPT Technique. PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) is an approach to speech production disorders that addresses the physical-sensory, cognitive linguistic, and social-emotional elements of motor performance. Katie has worked with several clients, ages 4 to adult, achieving effective independent, multimodal communication through AAC. Katie has extensive experience collaborating with her clients’ families and support staff (teacher, aides, other professionals) to develop ways to generalize AAC into the home and school setting.
