PANDAS/PANS - Transforming a Devastating Chronic Illness into a Treatable Disorder - Dr. Nancy O'Hara
Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders associated with Streptococcal Infections, or PANDAS, is a common autoimmune disorder with far-reaching movement, behavioral, and cognitive consequences. While OCD and tics are still common, other issues like anxiety, bedtime fears, inability to control urination, aggression, and deficits in learning, attention, and social interaction are among the many manifestations that result from PANDAS/PANS and impair the daily functioning and cognitive progress for many children. Not only Strep, but Lyme, Viruses, Mycoplasma and other germs can lead to Autoimmune Encephalitis. Autoimmune Encephalitis can be implicated in ASD ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Depression, Anxiety, Dementia, Scizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, in addition to PANDAS/PANS. Heightened clinical suspicion and more appropriate and comprehensive treatment with antibiotics and immune-modulating therapy will transform PANDAS/PANS from a devastating chronic illness with episodic flares into a treatable disorder.
Introduction to Biomedical Treatment for Autism
Dr. Lindsey Wells presents an overview of how to care for your children with Autism Spectrum Disorders with biomedical interventions. The biomedical approach views Autism as a treatable chronic illness by addressing the underlying physiological cause(s) contributing to your child’s diagnosis. Dr. Wells will explain how the gut, immune system, environmental factors, mitochondrial dysfunction, toxicity, and inflammation contribute to our child’s symptoms. She will provide tools on how to approach your child’s case with the use of natural interventions that are safe and effective.
